SOUTHWEST TECH GED PROGRAM Please see your GED Instructor or Counselor for upcoming test dates. Test Location: St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES 7227 State Highway 56 Norwood, New York 13668 Students attending the GED program at Southwest Technical Center need to register by meeting with Ami Larson, in the Guidance Office. General GED Information/Requirements: The content requirement of the GED program, according to ACE, the GED Advisory Committee Notebook, 1996, is to "measure the major academic skills and knowledge associated with a four-year high school program of study that graduating seniors should know and be able to do in the year 2000 and beyond, with increased emphasis on workplace and higher education." At Soutwest Technical Center, the Alternative Career Prep. and GED Prep. programs emphasis is placed on mastering the skills necessary to communicate and become a successful member of society. This is achieved through career exploration and attention to reading and writing skills. A student is placed in the Career Prep. or GED program based on reading level. In order to be successful in the GED program and prepare to qualify to take the GED, a student should have at least a 9th grade reading level. Other subjects covered in Career Prep. and GED are, mathematics, language arts (reading and writing), science, and social studies. The second half of the GED student's day is comprised of either a work component or one of the many Career Ed. courses offered at Southwest Tech. Center.
