Southwest Career & Technical Education Center is located just outside of Gouverneur, NY in the hamlet of Fowler and serves an average of 280 students from 4 component school districts: Clifton-Fine, Edwards-Knox, Gouverneur and Harrisville.
Students have an opportunity to choose from nine high quality, 2 year programs: Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Education & Human Services, Graphic Communications, Heavy Equipment Operations and Metalworking. As well as, Allied Health, Pharmacy Tech and CNA which are offered as one-year programs.
Students are given the opportunity to take challenging classes in a customized and relevant tech program that helps to prepare them for a specific career or college, learn hands on skills to advance in the trade of their choice, for now or the future. Many programs have Articulation agreements, giving our students the potential to gain 3 to 6 college credits upon successful completion of the tech program.
Zayne, son of Denise Kiggins and Russell Bridge, of Harrisville Central has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for March, 2017. Zayne studies the Metal Working Technology curriculum at Southwest Tech.
Zayne has been an outstanding student from his start in the Metal Working Program. He comes in every day with a positive attitude and a smile on his face. Zayne is a hard and consistent worker. This hard work has been paying off with his recent achievement of the NYS 3G bridge-welding exam. Zayne is always willing to help other students when needed. He is not afraid to ask questions and always puts forth his best effort.
The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce and is awarded to those students whose efforts are of the highest caliber.
