Southwest Career & Technical Education Center is located just outside of Gouverneur, NY in the hamlet of Fowler and serves an average of 280 students from 4 component school districts: Clifton-Fine, Edwards-Knox, Gouverneur and Harrisville.
Students have an opportunity to choose from nine high quality, 2 year programs: Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Education & Human Services, Graphic Communications, Heavy Equipment Operations and Metalworking. As well as, Allied Health, Pharmacy Tech and CNA which are offered as one-year programs.
Students are given the opportunity to take challenging classes in a customized and relevant tech program that helps to prepare them for a specific career or college, learn hands on skills to advance in the trade of their choice, for now or the future. Many programs have Articulation agreements, giving our students the potential to gain 3 to 6 college credits upon successful completion of the tech program.
Jacklyn LaPlatney, daughter of Jerome and Laura LaPlatney, of Harrisville Central has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for February, 2017. Jacklyn studies the Education & Human Services curriculum at Southwest Tech.
Jacklyn LaPlatney is an outstanding student and Mrs. Perry feels as though it is an honor to nominate her as student of the month for the Education & Human Services program. Jacklyn is a very conscientious, hardworking young lady. She is always willing to help others and shows concern for her peers, staff members and the children she is working with. She is extremely dependable, responsible and has a positive attitude. Jacklyn’s passion for helping others in the Education Human Services’ field is evident in the work she does for class. She is a very dedicated student and puts forth her best effort every day.
The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce and is awarded to those students whose efforts are of the highest caliber.
