Online Databases

St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System Libraries in our North Country region have access to a number of online database services. These services are provided through the New York State Library (NOVELNY), the Northern New York Library Network, and/or the St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System.

NOVELNY is a statewide virtual library provided free to the public by the New York State Library. It is supported with temporary federal Library Services and Technology Act funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Online databases provided by NOVELNY are:
  • Gale Databases: Academic OneFiles, Business Insights: Essentials, General OneFile, Health Reference Center Academic, Infotrac Newsstand, Kids Infobits, and Opposing Viewpoints in Context
  • Scholastic (formerly Grolier) databases: Amazing Animals of the World, America the Beautiful, Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, Lands and Peoples, New Book of Knowledge, The New Book of Popular Science, and La Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre
  • ProQuest: eLibrary Elementary and Gannett Newsstand

In addition, there are occasional trials for various commercial online databases. Librarians are informed by the SLS of any free trials through emails and in the "Booktalk Weekly."
