    Changes to SLL BOCES Non-discrimination Language Requirements, Effective Immediately

    05.25.2016 St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES has been instructed by the Federal Office of Civil Rights to amend the language of our federally required non-discrimination statement. We must include the revised statement on any, "bulletins, announcements, publications, catalogs, application forms, or other recruitment materials that are made available to participants, students, applicants, or employees."

    We will meet this requirement either by including appropriate inserts in existing materials and publications, or by revising and reprinting the materials and publications.

    The BOCES Communications Specialist will ensure that all new pieces produced contain the appropriate statement. However, if any employees create flyers and brochures that do not go through the Communications Specialist, the responsibility for compliance with the new requirements rests with any employee who creates/distributes materials to the public.


    What is the new language?

    The full statement is as follows:

    The St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.     How do I determine which statement to use?

    Any bulletin, flyer, announcement, publication, catalog, application form, or other recruitment materials that are targeted towards recruiting students to our programs or recruiting employees to working for BOCES must contain the full statement.

    Other items such as program sell sheets, conference and professional development flyers, e-newsletters for staff or customers, informational brochures about services designed for component districts, etc. can use a shortened statement.

    Items like agendas, minutes, and forms designed for strictly internal audiences do not need to contain the statement in any fashion.


    How should I include the statement?

    As materials are created or printed for the first time, please pay attention to whether the piece falls into a category that needs to include a version of the statement. For existing materials, please print out and attach one of the following statement sheets:
