Distance Learning

Distance Learning (DL) provides education services to subscribing school districts by linking the faculty member and expanded resources with students at remote sites. The teacher and students in a classroom can interact visually and speak with the students in remote schools, plus send or receive data. Low enrollment courses, important to students, can more readily be provided if additional students are added to the class at remote sites. College level courses are available during the day and evening for high school students as well as adults, without having to commute to a college campus. In addition to the enriched curricular offerings that are available to the students at each participating school, there are expanded opportunities for committee meetings/conferences, staff development and community offered courses utilizing the service, while sharing expertise among school districts. Video conferencing capabilities are included in the service. Electronic virtual field trips are available to enhance and enrich curriculum. Opportunities are available for every grade level and all curricular areas. (BOCES Aidable)

Distance Learning Overview

New York State Distance Learning Consortium

Our mission as the NYS Distance Learning Consortium is to provide opportunities, services, and professional development related to distance learning and e-learning. Using 21st century learning technologies and solutions, we enrich student learning by enhancing and expanding the traditional role of education through virtual environments.

St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Videoconferencing Service

Video conferencing support base fee includes support for video conferencing.  This includes maintenance costs and support of individual needs (i.e.: setup for students on medical leave). Video conferencing will also be used to expand the traditional distance learning opportunities by allowing a district to send or receive two or more courses simultaneously.  Real time instruction can be provided to students unable to attend school.

In addition to the enriched curricular offerings, there are expanded opportunities for committee meetings/conferences and staff development utilizing the network while sharing expertise among school districts.
