Agricultural Studies Academy (ASA)
Agricultural Studies Academy (ASA) operates in partnership with the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Canton, NY. Senior students have the opportunity to attend Agricultural Studies Academy for a full day with a comprehensive introduction to agricultural science and business management while completing senior high school requirements. There is also an AM half day senior option and a PM half day junior option. Topic areas covered junior year include: animal science, natural resources, maple, ag mechanics, and plant science. Topic areas covered senior year include: vet science, food science, maple, ag business and crop sciences. During this program students will receive hands-on experience with animals and equipment at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm as well as work-based learning opportunities at various sites around St. Lawrence County.
Integrated Academic Credits Available: For half day students: 1 credit of Math, 1 credit of Science and 1 credit of ELA over the course of the two year curriculum. For full day students: 1 credit of Math, 1 credit of Science, .5 credit of Economics, .5 credit of Participation in Government, .5 credit for Physical Education and 1 credit of ELA over the course of the one year curriculum.

Automotive Technology
The Automotive Technology program focuses on troubleshooting and repairing vehicles that customers bring in for repair. Students will learn from both hands-on work and classroom instruction about working on different vehicles and using different tools. In this field of work, students will be required to repair surfaces using power tools or hand tools, inspect repaired vehicles for proper functioning, and test-drive vehicles to ensure proper alignment and drivability. Students also specialize in maintenance and repairs on ATV’s, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and other outdoor power equipment.
The Automotive Technologies program is great for someone who wants to further delve into the career of automotive repair and will teach them the life skills on how to keep their own vehicle running smoothly.

The Building Trades program provides hands-on learning experiences, while teaching students how to properly and safely use equipment, the fundamentals of construction, and logging their daily progress. Students also learn plumbing, roofing, electrical, blueprint reading, building construction and design as well as many other skills that create a variety of job opportunities in this field. The culminating experience for the class is the construction of a house that is then auctioned off at the end of each year.
A great thing about having a career in the building trades is that you can go right to work after completing high school. A high school diploma along with the Certification for Construction and OSHA Certification for Contracting that you receive after completing the Building Trades program, prepares students to obtain good paying jobs. This career field also provides opportunities to travel and work in many locations, working outside with your hands, working in a team environment, and there are constant job opportunities due to the high demand for workers.

Cosmetology is a two year program with a minimum of 1,000 hours of instruction time. We study the art and science of beautifying and improving the skin, nails, and hair. The program offers instruction and practical experience in the skills and theory necessary to be a licensed cosmetologist. Students are introduced to a multitude of techniques used in today’s trending beauty industry. Students gain practical experience in a modern working salon environment performing services for friends, family and members of the community. Students who successfully complete the 1,000 hour requirement are eligible to sit for the NYS licensure exam.

Criminal Justice is a program that will help lay the foundation for your education in the world of law enforcement and justice. This course teaches you aspects of how the justice system works, which can lead to jobs in the prison system, law enforcement, or the court system.
Students in this course learn the basics of how the laws in New York State work, as well as how they differ from other states. The Criminal Justice field offers a wide variety of good paying jobs. Throughout the two year program, students will be able to meet and interact with criminal justice professionals at the local, couty, state and federal agencies. Students may earn up to 15 college credits through a variety of dual enrollment opportunities.

Classically trained chefs will tell you the best meals begin with a good stock. Our Culinary Arts program is the perfect beginning stock for students looking to cook up rewarding careers in the food service industry. Students enrolled in this creative, challenging program will receive the classroom and hands on experience needed to be college ready and/or career bound. Students will need a degree of self-discipline, and a focus on safety around kitchen equipment, knives, and other equipment found in the industry. We concentrate on the ProStart curriculum that was developed by the National Restaurant Association's Educational Foundation. Students learn the ability to handle stress in a high paced environment, the importance of personal hygiene, time management, how to work independently and as a team player.
We focus intensely on preparing, holding and serving food safely. We also incorporate the ServSafe curriculum which is a certification program that teaches students the food and safety requirements mandatory in the food industry. This also gives them an advantage in the work field. We offer dual enrollment with SUNY Jefferson Community College that allows completers to transfer credits they obtain during Culinary Arts to a SUNY College.

The two year Education and Human Services program includes instruction in human growth and development, planning and supervision of learning activities, child abuse and neglect awareness and prevention, family relationships, legal and administrative requirements, supporting those with special needs, and mental health issues. Along with these topics we explore career options and programs related to each.
Throughout the program, students will gain practical hands-on experience working in various facets of the field of education and human services. This includes an internship with the ARC, as well as placements in K-12 classrooms, and other areas of interest. Throughout the program, students will meet all requirements necessary to sit for the teaching assistant certification exam upon graduation. This includes Dignity for All Students (DASA) and Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) training. Dual enrollment opportunities also exist for students, allowing them to obtain college credits prior to graduation.

Graphic Communications
Do you like art? Do you like creating new designs? In Graphic Communications we do both. Our program is all about learning the skills necessary to pursue a career in the graphic design field. Students will learn how to create motion graphics, portrait and product photography, videography, video and photo editing, animation, web design, logo design, and public speaking/presentation skills.
Upon graduation, employment opportunities include being an Art Director, Creative Director, Drafter, Film and Video Editor, Graphic Designer, Industrial/Product Designer, Marketing Manager, Multimedia Artist/Animator, Technical Writer, or Web Designer. If you want to pursue a career in graphic design you typically will need, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree. The job market is highly competitive, and are more often located in cities than in rural areas.
The Graphic Communications program allows students to sharpen their creativity skills and gain real world experiences. After two years, students have more experience to catapult them to whatever job they apply for.

The Hearting, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or H.V.A.C. program teaches students how to install and maintain industrial and residential H.V.A.C. systems. Students also learn things like the refrigeration cycle, thermodynamics, and pressure/temperature relationships.
H.V.A.C. technicians are in great demand both locally and internationally. There is a large need in this field as people utilize refrigerators, freezers, heaters, and other similar appliances. Students can obtain OSHA and EPA certifications. They can also further their education by participating in apprenticeship programs or attending college.

This two-year program emphasizes safe and proper operation of heavy equipment and related shop tools. Through simulation as well as on and off site projects, students will learn and hone entry-level operation skills on backhoes, dozers, forklifts, mini excavators, skid steers and graders from a variety of manufacturers. Instruction also included specialized attachments as well as laser level technology. Construction math (project estimates, slope grade, and excavation volume calculations), interpreting civil drawings, plot staking and plot diagrams will be practiced. Maintenance includes pre-shift checks, equipment mechanics and welding. Completion of the program offers employment opportunities in a wide variety of careers, such as road construction/highway maintenance, logging and timber industries, residential and commercial construction and personal business owner.

Students learn contemporary metal joining, cutting and welding processes used in manufacturing and fabricating. They work with mild steel, aluminum and stainless, as well as other metals and their alloys. Throughout the program, students gain daily practical experiences in all welding and cutting processes.
Welding: Welding processes are studied and practiced. Many materials and processes are explained.
Mechanical Maintenance: Experience provides the skills needed to keep mechanical devices operating trouble free and some assembly and disassembly techniques.
Fabrication: Design and fabrication of projects (trailers, stoves and repairs).

The Natural Resource Management program is ideal for students who enjoy the outdoors. Students who participate in the class share a sense of passion for the environment and the effects humans have on the outdoors. Not only do students learn about the world around them, but they learn critical thinking skills such as communication, collaboration and problem solving.
This program is broken down into four categories of study: ecology, earth science, biology and geography. Students learn about wildlife conservation, environmental policy and ecosystem management to develop solutions for reversing problems and maintaining healthy ecosystems. NRM students learn how to save natural areas and the plants and animals that live in them. They study how to use natural resources, such as trees, in ways that won’t harm the environment.

WHERE is New Visions Education? The classroom and workspace will be at John F. Kennedy
Elementary School in Ogdensburg. This will allow students to be immersed in an educational career themed setting throughout their entire time in the program. Throughout the year, 2-3 days per week, work and learning will take place alongside educational professionals in their classrooms and workspaces, under the supervision and guidance of the New Visions Education instructor.

New Visions: Medical Careers
This pre-college professional program is an exciting opportunity for high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare industry. Students will spend time in class developing the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in the field of healthcare. The coursework included an introduction to health careers, topics in communication, health law, ethics, microbiology and disease, and anatomy and physiology. Also incorporated in the program are lab practice and procedure, job shadowing, First Aid and CPR/AED, community service and portfolio development.

This one-year program, 450-hour course prepares students to sit for the National Certification Exam. Pharmacy Technicians assist pharmacists in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services and work in a variety of settings. Students will develop the skills needed to perform the tasks of a pharmacy technician. They will study medical and pharmaceutical terminology, learn pharmacy record keeping and pharmaceutical techniques, explore pharmacy law and ethics, learn pharmaceutical calculations through hands-on compounding of various medication forms such as IV solutions, capsules, lip balms, lollipops, and others. Students will also gain practical experience by participating in Work-Based Learning in actual pharmacies.

Software Development and Business Design
SDBD is a two-year program that is a team focused and student driven learning experience. In the first year, students will learn how to program and design web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications. This process will also include general graphic design theory and how it pertains to the User Interface design process for their web applications. Included will be the study of graphics and logos using Adobe Illustrator, and photo editing and graphic design using Adobe Photoshop.
In the second year, students will learn advanced and dynamic web development skills using PHP, SQL, and MySQL to create dynamic web content, some basic web server management skills, as well as other advanced programming skills and languages as time permits.
The ideal student should be self-motivated and able to work within a team environment as well as independently. They should have the initiative to take responsibility in advancing their skills and possibly be looking to advance into a college program for further study. You can earn up to 6 college credits throughout your 2 years, as well as earn multiple Adobe Certified Associate certifications, which are an industry standard in the world of development and design. This course will prepare students for further work or study in the world of computer science, cybersecurity, graphic design, web development, database programming, game development, and many other Information Technology based careers.
