Welcome to Joanne Witt – Career and Technical Education Principal at Southwest Center.
The BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) program provides occupational training to approximately 1,000 secondary students and adults at the three Career and Technical Education Centers: Seaway Area Tech in Norwood, Northwest Tech in Ogdensburg, and Southwest Tech in Gouverneur. There are currently 16 different CTE programs available to the three Centers. The administration and staff of the CTE programs, utilizing input from component schools, industry, and the public, strive to provide a relevant career and college preparation to secondary students and adult residents of SLL BOCES region. Successful completion of a BOCES program leads to technical endorsement on a local or Regents high school diploma. Students earn high school credit towards graduation in their technical area, as well as math and science through an integrated approach to instruction.
Joanne started as the Southwest CTE Center Principal on November 13, 2017. Prior to coming to BOCES, Joanne worked as an English Teacher at Watertown City School District and a Computer Science Teacher at Alexandria Central School.
Joanne received her Bachelors degree in English and ELA Education from SUNY Potsdam and her MSeD Information Technology from SUNY Potsdam, and her CAS from SUNY Oswego. Joanne is a native of the north country graduating from Gouverneur Central School.
