The 26th Annual Gateways to Careers event was held Wednesday, March 20, 2018, from 8:30AM to 12:00PM at Roos House, on the SUNY Canton campus.

Gateways 2019 gave more than 1,200 students from all 18 school districts comprising the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES the opportunity to learn critical job-seeking skills including using a professional résumé, proper attire, and a positive attitude to positively influence an employer. The event is held each year and is open to both juniors and seniors. This year employers had the opportunity to interact with more than 300 juniors and 900 seniors from our local schools.

Students across the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES region prepared for Gateways by learning about résumé writing, creating potential employer lists, informational interviewing, and showcasing their projects and achievements through the use of a professional portfolio.

Over 70 area employers participated in Gateways 2019 and representatives evaluated each student on the basis of preparedness, attitude, skills and knowledge, and readiness for work. About 400 students at a time arrived at Roos House for one of three, 90-minute sessions. During that time, students conducted at least three mock interviews, with helpful feedback provided by the employers. Along with area businesses, students also had the opportunity to meet with college and military representatives.
