The Health Careers program at the SLL BOCES Northwest Tech Center has received a generous donation of two state-of-the-art Hill-Rom hospital beds. The beds were donated by the Cleveland Hospital, a contribution sparked by the vision of Lonny Carpenter. A retired healthcare professional and Ogdensburg native, Lonny has shared his dedication to ensuring future healthcare workers have the opportunity to learn and train with equipment that will help them become not only industry-ready, but also industry-safe.
These advanced beds, found in local medical facilities, will allow students to train on the same equipment they’ll encounter in hospitals and care settings. As a result, graduates will be better prepared to enter the workforce with confidence and competence, without needing additional training on patient care equipment.
“This donation is a game-changer for our students,” said Northwest Tech Principal Steven Morrow. “It bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience, giving our students a head start in their healthcare careers.”
Keeping equipment and supplies up to date is vital as technology continues to evolve in the healthcare industry. Training with modern tools ensures students in health careers are learning current best practices and are ready to meet the demands of today’s fast-paced medical environments.
“The timing of this donation couldn’t be better, said Amber Farrand, Healthcare Careers Instructor at Northwest Tech. “With demand for nurses and healthcare professionals especially high in our region, we remain committed to preparing students to meet that need with real-world skills and experience.”
“We extend our heartfelt thanks for this generous contribution, which will have a lasting impact on students and the communities they will serve, ” said Jim Nee, Deputy Superintendent of St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES. “We also welcome future partnerships that help strengthen student learning and career readiness in this region.”
