Manufacturing Day 2025: Real-World Learning in Action

On Friday, October 17, Career & Technical Education (CTE) students from across St. Lawrence County participated in Manufacturing Day, touring 20+ local businesses to explore careers in advanced manufacturing, logistics, engineering, and skilled trades.

Students from districts including Massena, Canton, Hammond, Clifton-Fine, Morristown, Colton, Parishville-Hopkinton, Hermon-Dekalb, Edwards-Knox, Brasher Falls, Lisbon, Gouverneur, and Potsdam visited sites such as Kinney Drugs Central Fill & Distribution, Cives Steel, Bestway Lumber, Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Empire State Mines, Five Mile Farm, Structural Wood, Heidelberg Quarry, Curran Renewable, Arconic, Am-Tech Yarns, St. Lawrence Seaway, Alcoa, Potsdam Specialty Paper and Corning.

“Manufacturing Day gives our students a chance to see the real-world applications of the skills they’re learning in CTE programs,” said Emilyann McGregor, Supervisor of Instructional Resources at SLL BOCES. “It’s about connecting classroom learning to career pathways and helping students envision their future in the North Country workforce.”

These hands-on experiences gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how products are made, distributed, and innovated right here in the North Country. Huge thanks to our business partners and liaisons for making this day possible!
