Mathematics Professional Learning Day at Northwest Tech

On May 13, educators, administrators, and numeracy leaders convened at Northwest Tech for a full day of professional learning focused on mathematics instruction. The event centered around the upcoming release of NYSED’s Numeracy Briefs, developed by renowned education expert Dr. Deborah Loewenberg Ball. These briefs are designed to support evidence-based, high-quality math teaching across Pre-K through Grade 12.

Participants engaged in an overview of all eight numeracy briefs, followed by structured time for reflection, discussion, and collaboration. The day provided a valuable opportunity for educators to deepen their understanding of effective math practices and to share insights with colleagues from across the state.

A big thank you to the culinary students at the Northwest Career & Technical Education Center for preparing a delicious lunch! The menu featured a variety of options, including vegetarian and roast beef wraps, Dagwood sandwiches, turkey and provolone wraps, pasta salad, and freshly baked cookies.
