The St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) is pleased to announce the appointment of Darin Saiff as its next district superintendent, following a successful interview with New York State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa. The SLL BOCES Board officially appointed Saiff on Tuesday, July 2. He will begin his duties on August 2.
Saiff currently serves as deputy superintendent of St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES. He has been a key leader in the organization since 2016, previously serving as assistant superintendent of instruction. His prior roles include superintendent and principal at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District, and 7–12 principal at Chateaugay Central School.
“This opportunity represents the culmination of a career dedicated to public education and a deep commitment to serving students, educators, and communities across our region,” Saiff said. “I am honored and humbled to serve as the district superintendent of the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES.”
The board selected Saiff as its finalist following a thorough search process that included multiple rounds of interviews, community forums, and stakeholder engagement. The search was facilitated by Dale Breault, district superintendent of Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES.
Roger Bennett, president of the SLL BOCES board, said they were impressed by the strength of the candidate pool and the engagement throughout the process.
“We’re very pleased with how the process unfolded and want to thank all those who took part in the search,” Bennett said. “We’re excited to work with Saiff and look forward to what’s ahead for our region.”
Saiff holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from SUNY Potsdam, as well as a master’s degree in educational administration from St. Lawrence University.
“As I step into this role, my focus will be on fostering collaboration, strengthening partnerships with our component districts, and ensuring that BOCES continues to deliver innovative, high-quality programs that meet the evolving needs of students and the workforce,” Saiff said.
“I believe strongly in the power of shared leadership and look forward to working alongside educators, staff, and stakeholders to build on our successes and chart a forward-thinking path for the future.”
Stakeholders noted Saiff’s experience, regional ties, and collaborative leadership style as key strengths throughout the process.
“This appointment is both a personal and professional milestone,” Saiff added. “It is a privilege to support the vital work of education in our region, and I am eager to contribute to a culture of excellence, equity, and opportunity for all learners.”
