St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES recently welcomed local and state leaders to the Educational Services Center in Canton for a regional legislative event focused on the needs and priorities of public education across the North Country. The event brought together district superintendents, SLL BOCES Board of Education members, and key legislative representatives for an afternoon of discussion, collaboration and advocacy.

Legislators in attendance included Senator Dan Stec, Senator Mark Walczyk, Assemblyman Scott Gray, and Tammie Nabywaniec, Chief of Staff for Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush. Their participation provided an important opportunity for open dialogue about current challenges facing rural schools, the impact of state-level decisions on local districts, and the essential programs and services supported by BOCES.

Throughout the event, leaders discussed topics such as electric buses, school funding, early childhood education, special education services, mental health supports and the critical importance of sustained legislative investment. Attendees also highlighted the collaborative role BOCES plays in strengthening regional capacity and ensuring equitable opportunities for all students.

St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES extends its appreciation to all superintendents, Board of Education members and legislative representatives who attended. Their continued partnership and engagement are vital in supporting high-quality educational programming across our region.
