Learning Resources Center (LRC) / School Library System
The LRC provides access to a wide variety of material and services to meet the needs of our member school districts. A van delivery service provides twice a week pick up and drop off of mail, equipment and interlibrary loan materials; the van runs September through June. The Media Library consists of more than 10,000 curriculum-related videos, DVDs, Big Books, and audiovisual kits; as well as tens of thousands of streaming video through services such as PBS Learning Media NY and Learn 360. These items can all be found in SNAP, an indexed, online, searchable catalog.
Lamination is one of our more popular BOCES Media Library services. For this particular service, schools are charged per foot of lamination used.
The Media Library consists of a variety of educational resources that circulate to our local school districts on a weekly basis. Media cover most subject areas and range from nursery/preschool through adult levels. The library also offers the special collections and services listed below. All materials in our special collections are also available in our circulating library and can be found in the online SNAP Catalog. The SLS BULLETIN (formerly Media Library News) is our monthly newsletter with updates from the Media Library.
The Learning Resources Center provides access to three music libraries. Sheet music is available from the Oneida-Herkimer Cooperative Music Program. This service is available through Cross-Contract with Oneida-Herkimer BOCES. The SLCMEA Music Library includes sheet music for band, jazz band, chorus and orchestra, and is available to all music educators in the region. Soundzabound is a service that provides royalty free music and is available through the LRC CoSer.
Van Mail Delivery
The van delivery service, part of CoSer 509 Learning Resources Center, provides delivery of mail, AV equipment, computers, lamination, interlibrary loan and other materials between the seventeen participating school districts and all BOCES offices and technical centers. All items that travel via van mail are date-stamped when they arrive in the Learning Resources Center, before being sorted for their final destination. Items that are insufficiently addressed or have NO RETURN address will be sent back to the site of origin. Only properly addressed materials are sent on to the districts or BOCES offices in order to ensure correct and confidential delivery. If you are sending materials via BOCES van mail, please make sure to address the materials as if you were mailing them through the U.S. Postal Service (with complete sender and addressee information).
