Communications and Committees

An essential aspect of the School Library System is committee activity.  It is SO important that the SLS Council Bylaws require CC/Liaison librarians to be part of at least one SLS committee.  While only CC/Liaison members are required to be committee members, ALL librarians are encouraged to take part.  With broader input and representation, every school's interests are served.  Committee participation allows colleagues to connect ideas to be exchanged and plans to be advanced.  There is no better professional development activity that committee participation.

Committees carry on the work of the School Library System by paying continued attention to the development of SLS services.  Meetings are held AFTER the school day, as centrally located as possible.  Often, meetings are held after CC/Liaison or Council meetings, when librarians are already congregated.  Also, many meetings are held electronically, with actual, physical meetings held only when committee work cannot advance without in-person conversation.

SLS committees have been organized by the elements of its Five-Year Plan of Service.  Some committees have subcommittees to work on specific tasks.  There is room for everyone on an SLS committee.
