Online Databases

Libraries in our North Country region have access to a number of online database services. These services are provided through the New York State Library (NOVELNY), the Northern New York Library Network, and/or the St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System.

NOVELNY is a statewide virtual library provided free to the public by the New York State Library. It is supported with temporary federal Library Services and Technology Act funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Online databases provided by NOVELNY are:
  • Britannica Databases: Britannica Academic, Britannica Escolar, and Britannica School
  • Gale Databases: Academic OneFiles, Business Insights: Essentials, Computer Database, Educators Reference Complete, Expanded Academic ASAP, General OneFile with InfoTrac Collections, General Reference Center Gold, Health Reference Center Academic, Informe Academico, Infotrac Newsstand, Kids Infobits, Opposing Viewpoints in Context, and Research in Context

  • Spotlight On Series
  • World Book ebooks

In addition, there are occasional trials for various commercial online databases. Librarians are informed by the SLS of any free trials through emails and in the "Booktalk Bi-Weekly."
